Gold and frothy
/
I have come to take absolute delight in watching the sun rise every morning. Its baffling to think of how the world is rotating towards the sun, and that is why it rises steadily over the horizon - not because the sun is actually "rising" into the sky. Infrequently we get periods of time where the water is still and steady, reflecting the sun's light like a mirror. The instant that it peaks up over the horizon line, eyes have to look away. The brightness is simply too intense. Our favorites have been when clouds line the horizon. The hues and shades of pink and gold are a welcomed treat for the eyes. A times there have been banks of clouds hovering just above the horizon line. The sun colors the clouds as it approaches, crests up over the horizon in a show of gold brilliance and sneaks up into the bank of clouds, illuminating them in magnificent shades of beauty.
Yesterday, though, was something unlike anything I've seen in the past year. There was a consistent stream of rollers pounding the shore. The sun crested and the water instantly turned gold. On a typical morning, the moment the sun crests the water turns a deliciously frothy and creamy white, with translucent aqua waves carrying the white foam to the shore. The aqua and froth tangle and roll to the black jagged rocks, one after another, as the ocean behind it gleams and glitters with reflection.
But yesterday, yesterday ALL was gold. Every surface of water I could see, in all forms. ALL was gold. Huge golden, translucent waves crested into frothy, shimmery gold foam. The vastness behind was all golden. It was simply unreal. The suns rays shot through the body of the waves, lighting up every water droplet like millions of tiny gold coins rushing to the shore.
(It was one of those mornings that my heart sank when I realized Josh was just stepping out the door to work and all the boys were awake. OH to have a moment to run over and grab a tangible memory of it with my camera, but of course, I feel that way most mornings. :)
It was a blessing just to have witnessed it. What a mighty and creative God we have.
